Health and Wellness in the Garden: Prevent Hypertension

Horticulture therapy is a professional practice using plants and gardening to improve mental and physical health and well-being. Gardening reduces your anxiety and stress levels while you are focusing on your plants, which naturally drops your blood pressure. One way to get high blood pressure is to make mountains out of mole hills. Or, you can lower your blood pressure by joining us in the garden. Ruth Townsend, MS, will discuss how to control your blood pressure, thereby reducing your risk for heart attack, stroke and more. Following the presentation, Stacey Shriner with the Alaska Botanical Garden will teach participants about herbs that can help increase blood flow and reduce stress, and which ones grow best in Alaska. We'll then make an herb tea bag and enjoy a cup of tea in the garden!
