    As the Garden enters this vibrant season of growth and renewal, we are writing to share an important leadership transition update with you. After 14 years of dedicated service, our Executive Director Mike Monterusso has departed to pursue his next professional chapter. His passion for our mission has been a cornerstone of the Garden’s evolution, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

    20+ Ford Model A’s will be on display throughout the Garden with Alaskan A’s club members available for car talk.

    Sundays in June | 4:00 - 6:00pm
    June 7th with The Grassteroids!

    Grab a blanket, snacks, friends and family for this outdoor picnic concert! Plus, Wild Scoops onsite with ice cream available for purchase!

  • What's in Bloom

    Mondays, June 8th-August 17th | 5:30-6:30pm

    Make the most of our short growing season and learn to identify Alaskan plants and find out what's blooming in our collections with one of our bi-monthly walks in the Garden.

  • Together in Nature

    Thursday, June 11th | 5:15-6:15pm

    Caregivers and their children ages 2-5 explore hands-on art stations inspired by the natural world. Using found and natural materials, they can experiment with textures, colors, and creative expression while building fine motor skills, sensory awareness, and early math and literacy foundations.

  • Felted Flowers: Painting with Wool

    Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14th | 12:00-3:00pm

    Join fiber artist Margaret Mackie at the Alaska Botanical Gardens for a colorful, two-day outdoor workshop where art and nature come together. This class will explore the art of “painting” with fine Merino wool, creating a vibrant, nature scene, set among the flowers of the garden.

  • Field Sketching in the Garden

    Tuesday, June 16th | 5:00-7:00pm

    Join science illustrator and field sketching teacher Kristin Link for an evening of drawing and observation. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to use your sketchbook as a tool for paying closer attention to the natural world, covering basic nature journaling techniques, including entering metadata, observation prompts for botanical sketching, and how to combine words, pictures, and numbers on the page.

  • Storytime in the Garden

    Wednesdays, June-August | 11:00am-12:00pm

    Join us twice a month on Wednesdays for an interactive storytime where we read, sing, dance and move our bodies! The story and program are designed for ages 6 and younger. Program takes place outside rain or shine (bring a blanket to sit on).

    June 10th’s story is Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle.

  • Tai Chi

    Saturdays, June 13th- August 29th | 10:30-11:30am

    Join Tai Chi instructor, Richie Goldstein, for an hour-long Tai Chi class on Saturdays. This low impact, mind-body practice will begin with a short warm up followed by a series of breathing exercises to help improve balance, both physical and mental.

    The Garden is here to help you with all your field trip needs, whether you need us to come to you, or you wish to get away from the classroom and come to us! Programs offered year-round, Monday - Friday.

    Commonly referred to as Himalayan poppies, the genus Meconopsis is composed of fuzzy, flowering plants native to the Tibetan Plateau.
