Guided Gardening
We are horticulturists who love plants and growing food! ABG’s Guided Gardening programs allow us to share the food we grow as well as our expertise and enthusiasm. Access to fresh, healthy food is a great concern in Alaska, and we want to do our part to increase community food security by helping you become a successful home gardener.
Learn, Grow, and Harvest with the Alaska Botanical Garden
At ABG, we’re gathering up all our horticultural expertise to help you not only grow your own food, but to truly understand the journey from seed to soup. Through curated educational content, we’ll walk you through the entire growing process, from soil preparation and planting, to harvesting and storing your produce. We’ll explore both edible and ornamental gardening, including annual and perennial flowers to help you create a thriving Alaskan garden that supports pollinators and enhances biodiversity.

-
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is essentially a vegetable subscription. Members pay up front in the spring when growers are stocking up on seeds and supplies for the season, then receive a portion (or share) of the harvest each week during the growing season.
-
ABG uses sustainable, organic growing practices and techniques. All produce is fresh and free of chemicals or toxins.
-
Members can collect their shares from ABG every Tuesday during the harvest season from 3-7 pm. If you are unable to make a pickup, let us know if someone else will collect your share for you or if you would like to have it donated. Any no-call no-shows will be automatically donated after the pick-up window closes.
-
Extra produce is available for sale every Tuesday from 3-7 pm in the ABG Nursery. Any produce leftover at the end of the evening is donated to the St. Francis House food pantry.
