Origami Seed Packets
DIRECTIONS
Use origami paper (or thin printer paper) to fold small envelopepackets to hold seeds. Seed packets often contain more seeds than the average home gardener needs so it can be great to share, gift, or trade extra seeds with friends, neighbors, or community members. For an added treat decorate the paper with paintings or drawings of the plants before filling them with seeds.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Get a small piece of origami paper or use a thin weight paper such as printer paper 80lb to create seed packets. (Thinner paper like newspaper may tear or become damaged by the seeds so try to use a lightweight 80 lb.paper instead)
2. Start with a square piece of paper (if using printer paper tear off a small rectangle section at one end to make a square piece of paper)
3. Fold the paper in half to make a triangle (take one corner of the square and bring it up until it meets the opposite corner, crease the paper into a fold)
4. Next fold the right point of the triangle across to the leftside so the top edge of the folded piece is parallel with the bottom.
5. Fold the opposite left corner across until the point meets the right-hand edge and the top lines up with the previous fold.
6. Take the point at the top of the envelope lid and fold down the front flap and then tuck it into the pouch at the front of the packet
7. Crease the fold
8. Label and decorate your seed packet (Name of the plant, care instructions spacing, depth, water, sun/shade, length of germination, if you like include a drawing or painting of the seeds plant on the front)
9. Fill the envelop with seeds
10. Now to close the lid, fold the remaining top flap of the envelope lid down and tuck it into the same front pouch as you did before
11. Crease the fold
12. Gift the origami seed packet to a friend, neighbor, or community member or save them for future use
*If you decide to decorate your origami seed packet with a paint of your plant image, make sure to use water sparingly so that you don’t soak the paper through, and which would cause it to tear.
