RESEARCH & CONSERVATION

Alaska Botanical Garden has a one-acre research plot with infrastructure resources in place to support a variety of research and production efforts. These resources include access to water (high-capacity well and pump), hand tools, raised beds, a heat wall, and high tunnel space. Current projects in progress involve alpine and rock garden plant hardiness trials, cold-hardy melons, peony production (from seed), and native forb seed production.

ABG is seeking research proposals for consideration as part of its Horticultural Research and Development Program. Proposals based on the following topics will receive priority consideration:

  • Vegetables, particularly heirloom varieties
  • Fruit and other food crops
  • Ethnobotanical species
  • Rare and unusual plants
  • Plant propagation
