ABG Workshop: Starting Your Seeds & Heritage Seeds
February 28, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm$20 - $25
Saturday, February 28th
2 to 4 pm @ Bell’s Nursery on Specking
Spring is just around the corner! Join Patrick Ryan of the Alaska Botanical Garden for a workshop to learn how and when to start your seeds for the 2015 season. Participants will learn about planting dates and times, soil mediums, lighting, equipment and more in this informative workshop. 2015 is Anchorage’s centennial celebration, and therefore a portion of this class will take a look at our horticultural heritage and the historic varieties of seeds used in the Anchorage area in the early 1900s. Each workshop participant will leave with a pack of seeds and lots of knowledge to get you ready for the 2015 season. Seeds will be available for purchase at Bell’s Nursery and heritage varieties will be available at the ABG gift shop located at the Garden.
Patrick Ryan is an experienced gardener who has been gardening in the Anchorage area for over 30 years. He is a Master Gardener, a member of the Garden Writers Association, and serves on various garden and conservation committees in the Anchorage area. Patrick recently graduated from 21 years in first grade. He now serves at ABG’s Education Specialist, leading youth programs throughout the year.
