‘Beeginner’s Mind’ – Setting an intention for happy and healthy hives and beekeepers
Learn the very basics about bees, beekeeping, and products from the hive from local bee expert, Maria D’Agostino. We’ll talk about what you need to get started, how to set up, and what happens in the hive – how you can help your bees do what they do best! We’ll also talk about how to take good care of yourself, do some hands-on equipment review, and taste some local honeycomb.
Maria D’Agostino, like some of her package bees, is a former ‘Californian Italian’. Curiosity, and a desire to support a colony inspired her to start beekeeping. Initially she considered honey to be an annoying, messy, byproduct, but then got excited about selling it locally in her San Francisco neighborhood. In her move to Alaska, she read everything she could, took classes with local experts, and joined the Southcentral Alaska Beekeepers Association. She keeps bees in downtown Anchorage, and sells honey, balms and salves. She loves to share her curiosity and enthusiasm for bees with others, especially at the Alaska Botanical Garden.
